Lightning and Learning: Bringing Nature to the Classroom & Vice Versa

This workshop will focus on the practical side of connecting the classroom with nature. Using practical, hands-on learning, we will discuss how using nature to engage the senses can be at the crux of successful learning and a medium for intellectual growth across disciplines.

We will cover 3 activities for all ages that act as a catalyst to larger environmental lessons and serve to benefit your student's cognitive ability in the classroom through sensory-rich, hands-on learning. Highlighting team-building and imagination and serve to deepen a wonder and appreciation for nature.

Calder Cheverie

Calder Cheverie is the Outdoor Education and Summer Camp Director for Camp Fircom. A back-country guide and educator, Calder has been working in outdoor education and leadership development for 12 years in ON, AB and BC and worked previously as an Ecological Intern Advisor for the Canadian Government out of Calgary. He has a passion for working alongside teachers to strengthen provincial curriculum through experiential, active and outdoor education.
