Peeking into Ponds: the new curriculum in the outdoor classroom

Learning Excursion Location: Campbell Valley Regional Park Nature House

Take children outside and reap the benefits of outdoor learning - you don't need to be an expert naturalist to use the outdoor classroom effectively! 

This workshop includes hands-on experiential strategies, practical teaching tools, and group management tips.  We will explore various cross-curricular activities and games that heighten sensory awareness, focus learning, and use critical inquiry skills to engage students with nature and the world around them - with a focus on ponds and water.

Please be prepared to be outdoors with rain gear and rubber boots. Hand-outs will be emailed to participants.



This workshop will take place offsite at:
Campbell Valley Regional Park, Nature House at 20285 8th Avenue, Langley.

Vanessa Lee

Vanessa is passionately involved with anything green, watery or mountainous!  This love affair started 16 years ago with tracking snakes in Ontario Provincial Parks and continued on through various interpretation positions at the Vancouver Aquarium to Metro Vancouver Regional Parks.  She has completed a Masters of Ecological Education and her work as a Richmond classroom teacher help her to connect classroom learning to outdoor nature spaces.  Vanessa is dedicated to connecting people to nature‚Äôs awe and wonder, and hopes to inspire care of place and wild things.
