The Changing Face of Canadian Admissions

Join us for an interactive journey through the Canadian post-secondary admissions experience. Many Canadian universities have adopted broad based admission, which requires that students demonstrate more than good grades; this admissions process places a significant, or even equal, emphasis on students’ personal experiences, skills, and attributes. These post-secondary institutions are seeking students who can contribute to both the classroom and school community. With a comprehensive understanding of each institution’s requirements and approach, counselors can facilitate students’ thinking, planning, and writing process, helping each student create an authentic and strong profile. The presentation will thus begin with an overview of the admissions process, followed by an admissions simulation. Participants will leave the session with a greater understanding of emerging Canadian post-secondary admission trends, a valuable opportunity to experience the admissions process from the university’s perspective, and the tools and knowledge to better support students in the post-secondary exploration and application process.
