Tapping into your Inherent Wisdom of Grief

This bereavement workshop blends creative arts, storytelling, discussion, and lecture to explore and expand grief literacy for educators in their support of students who have experienced the expected or unexpected death of a loved one.  

The learning outcomes for this workshop include:

  • ·       To understand grief in the context of a child’s developmental stage
  • ·       To identify common grief reactions
  • ·       To examine the role of storytelling and education to promote healing throughout the grieving process 
  • ·       To increase your personal comfort level initiating a dialogue about death and grief
  • ·       To gain a critical understanding of guidelines to support a grieving child

This workshop will include the use of hands-on activities, lecture, and discussion; handouts will be provided for attendees. 

Target Audience



Judi Arthur

Judi Arthur, MACP, RCC, is an author, consultant, instructor, and registered clinical counsellor. Her work at the Surrey Hospice Society involves providing grief counselling for bereaved and palliative clients.

Motivated by a desire to deepen her death, dying, & grief literacy and companioning skills, Judi completed the Hospice Volunteer Education Program in 2011. As a Surrey Hospice Society volunteer, she has worked in the Tertiary Palliative Care Unit at Surrey Memorial Hospital, facilitated grief walking groups, and supported palliative clientele in the community. 

In her private practice, Judi explores the fascinating intersection of nutrition and mental wellness as well as perinatal bereavement, life transitions, burnout, anxiety, depression, and mind-body wellness.  

Tricia Keith

Tricia Keith began her career in the creative and healing arts, graduating from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in 1995 and shortly thereafter, graduating from Prana Yoga and Zen Center. Tricia worked for over 20 years as a Community Artist, Yoga Teacher and Meditation Guide.  

Before coming on board Surrey Hospice Society, Tricia trained and served as a Home Funeral Guide, a Death Doula and Funeral Celebrant.

Her passion is connecting people to themselves, each other and nature.
