Shape Your Daily Lessons Into Engaging Stories: Cross-Curricular Imaginative Practices For Elementary Teachers

Our students come to us with active imaginative lives. Words cause images to arise in their minds. They enjoy jokes and humour. They all enjoy a good mystery and are engaged by a sense of dramatic tension. These different forms of engagement are not insignificant; they are ways of thinking that help human beings learn. They are also features of the most engaging and unforgettable stories around the world!

This session looks at how educators can routinely employ these same forms of engagement—these “cognitive tools”—in their teaching to make any aspect of the curriculum more meaningful and memorable. Participants will engage in practice and leave with strategies they can use in their teaching Monday morning.
