Complex Trauma: A relational approach

The effects of complex trauma are insidious and can significantly impact students’ ability to function academically, socially, and emotionally. Complex trauma influences a person’s self concept and can leave them feeling shame, guilt, low self esteem, and with a poor self image. These effects are often under-recognized in education. This workshop will support an understanding of the various aspects of complex trauma, and will present a relational approach to working with students from a complex trauma lens. It will promote dialogue about common struggles teachers may face and pitfalls inherent in the education system which can exacerbate symptoms.
