Exploring approaches to teaching outdoors - K to 7

Join SPES educators for an experiential, educational, and inspirational outdoor workshop in beautiful Stanley Park.

Increase your knowledge of ecology and discover ways to engage your students in nature at the same time! Learn field-tested activities and techniques to use in local parks or on your school grounds.

If you have never taken students outside on an educational adventure or don’t do it regularly, this workshop will give you the tools to do so with increased confidence.

This workshop will take place offsite at:
Meet at parking lot at miniature railway in Stanley Park

Target Audience

Primarily geared towards elementary school teachers and student teachers.

What to bring

Participants should dress for the weather as we are outdoors for the full 3 hours of the workshop.

Dylan Rawlyk

Dylan joined the SPES team in the late spring of 2015 as the School Programs Manager. He has a BSc from UBC and a BEd from SFU and has worked as an environmental educator with many non-profits in Metro Vancouver and elsewhere, including Evergreen, Science World, Catching the Spirit, Gently Down the Seymour, and RiverWatch. Dylan is passionate about the benefits of being immersed in nature and seeks to give students around Metro Vancouver memorable opportunities to explore, learn, and play in Stanley Park. When he’s not at work, you might see Dylan biking around the city and beyond, camping in our beautiful forests, or gardening and talking about compost.
