Building Toward Reconciliation: Steps to Indigenizing Public School Learning Environments

In this presentation Dr. Carlson discusses not only issues and challenges confronting educators who are trying to find respectful ways to Indigenize their schools and classrooms, but he provides some practical strategies that educators can adopt to move forward with the important issue of building reconciliation.

Dr. Keith Carlson

Dr. Keith Thor Carlson is a professor in the History Department at the University of Saskatchewan. He is also Director of USask's new Community engaged History Collaboratorium that partners university history student researchers with community organizations. Dr. Carlson's research and writings have focused on the history of the Coast Salish people of the Fraser Valley. He has authored, edited or co-edited nine books, including The Power of Place, the Problem of Time: Aboriginal Identity and Historical Consciousness in the Cauldron of Colonialism (University of Toronto Press, 2010). Mostly recently some of his work describing the Sto:lo has been translated into Chinese and is available as a book for Chinese language readers.
