Almost Everything You Wanted to Know About Indigenous History in South West BC But Were Afraid To Ask

In this presentation Dr. Carlson will provide an overview of the history of the Indigenous people of the lower Fraser River drainage system.  It is designed in a way that offers teachers not only information but strategies for engaging with this history in their classrooms.  It starts with the smallpox epidemics of the late 18th century and carries through to the 20th century. In this presentation he will present many aspects of local and regional Indigenous history that have been forgotten or overlooked (such as migrations, labour activities, relations with Europeans and Asians, gold-rush era kidnappings, etc).
