Powwow Dancing 101

Nyla Carpentier is a multifaceted performing artist currently residing in Vancouver, BC. Nyla is of the Tahltan and Kaska First Nations. She’s also French and Scottish. Since the age of three, Nyla has been powwow dancing and now with 30 years of experience she also teaches the various powwow styles, sharing the dance steps and the history. In 2011, in partnership with Raven Spirit Dance Company, Nyla started the popular Powwow Bootcamp. Nyla is also an actor and poet.


Nyla Carpentier has over 30 years experience of powwow dancing under her belt, will guide students through the basic dance steps and history of powwow dancing. The start of the class will be a warm-up to prepare the feet followed by learning about the various dance styles and the steps. There will be cool down and stretch at the end of the class. Please wear clothing you can move in, you can dance in bare feet or dance shoes and be prepared to dance!
