Growth Mindset and Self-Assessment in the Elementary Music Classroom

Participants will take part in an interactive workshop exploring language and strategies to encourage students towards a growth mindset while playing soprano ukulele. This workshop offers practical ideas for helping your students learn to verbalize and share their learning processes and choose appropriate strategies to help them grow in and celebrate their learning regardless of their current level of proficiency. Although ukuleles will be used to practice these strategies, discussion will link these ideas to other music experiences such as recorder and African drumming. Ukuleles will be provided. No previous ukulele playing experience is necessary.

Target Audience

Suggested grade 3-5

What to bring

Soprano ukuleles will be provided but participants are welcome to bring their own. We will be using C tuning.
