Today is ''dictée day''!
You know that Brian is going to take some time to get out his pencil, his notebook and that you will have to repeat the instructions three times, that Kristin was not able to review her lessons at home and that Dan forgets some sounds when she writes the words.
So you’re questioning yourself and wondering how to help your students. You tell yourself if your lesson plan is adequate and that the manual you follow is not suitable for your class.
The aim of the workshop is to introduce you to theoretical models and significant activities to teach French spelling.
Are there stages validated by science for teaching spelling? There are activities to make writing an enjoyable experience for students and teachers.
The format of the workshop will be a lecture. The participation of the audience will be asked. The workshop will be in French.

As a child, I preferred to memorize the lyrics of the Lion King movie than the multiplication tables. The ‘‘dictée’’ gave me a knot in my stomach, so much that I was afraid of failing. However, I wanted to become a teacher. So quite quickly, I was helping my friends with their homework. I saw the usefulness and their pride in understanding. As I was not an A+ student, I gave up my dream of being a teacher and moved on to set and costume designer. Life has a way of working out! In 2013, after helping struggling learners in a school and tutoring centre, I chose to return to school to obtain my Bachelor of Education in Specialized Education from the Université de Montréal. I decided to continue my studies in cognitive didactics in assessment and intervention in reading and writing at the Université du Québec à Montréal. It was there that I learned how to ''crack the French spelling code''! In 2022, I received the Certificate of Achievement from The Prime Minister for the excellence of my teaching. I work in a school as an ''orthopédagogue, a remedial/resource teacher in French and I am pursuing my graduate studies in special education in French. |
