INTERMEDIATE Artificial Intelligence and Digital Citizenship

This workshop will introduce educators to the concepts behind Artificial Intelligence (AI), through computational thinking and interactive games and activities. The workshop aims to give participants the tools and knowledge needed to understand what AI is, how it affects our daily lives, and how it shapes our online experiences.

Participants will get to train their own AI system using text and images to discover strategies for building a successful model. They will identify potential areas of bias when training an AI system, what this can do to the results, and why it is essential to be aware of these biases.

My background is in Teaching. I have a BEd (Elementary) degree from the Australian Catholic University. I worked as an elementary teacher for 4 years in Australia and the UK before teaching Science in a Secondary School in London. Upon coming to Canada, I wanted to use my experience to explore education outside of the classroom and started working as a Community Developer for Kids Code Jeunesse. I have presented workshops to students, teachers and pre-service teachers around BC.
