Collaborative Composition in the Band Room

Students can LEARN MUSIC BY MAKING MUSIC.

In this interactive presentation, Nikola will share an approach to facilitating collaborative composition, which focuses on an aural and embodied group experience (without conventional written music) that results in new perspective, creative empowerment and a strong bond formed between the young musicians. Teachers will be led through several creative warmups and will work in groups to come up with their own ideas for workshop starting points. We'll also explore how to nurture a safe space for creativity in the music classroom, embracing vulnerability and courage, for both students and teachers.

By the end of the workshop, teachers will have several starting points which they can experiment with in their respective classrooms.

As fluidity and adaptability are core elements of creative music making at any level, this workshop is open to teachers of ALL Grade Levels.
