Standards Based Assessment: An Assessment method for all math students

This workshop will detail the journey of two math teachers transforming their math assessment methods. Experiences and resources using standards based assessment (SBA) will be discussed and shared. Tips on how to do SBA reporting using MyEducation BC will also be presented. Time in the workshop will be given to provide tools and tips to help those who are transitioning to SBA to meet the new BC K-12 Student Reporting Framework requirements for Grade 8 and 9 courses for September 2023.

    Amos Lee

    Amos has been teaching secondary math courses in Burnaby for over 17 years.  He first started to inquire about Standards Based Assessment (SBA) in 2012.  Starting with his alternate math class, expanding to students in his regular classes, and then recently experimenting using SBA in his Advanced Placement courses, he has seen the positive change in the culture of all his students in all types of classes.

    Maher has been a math department head in the Burnaby School District for over 10 years.  He has been the lead in Burnaby South's Standards Based Assessment (SBA) committee and has been using SBA for over 3 years in his math classes.
