This introduction to SCRATCH workshops focus on code learning centred around computational thinking. These workshops aim to equip teachers with the skills needed to integrate code into their classrooms, regardless of what subject they teach.
The workshop will begin with an introduction to computational thinking, Scratch and its place in the classroom. The presentation will involve the instructor live coding while the participants follow along. The final segment of the workshop will involve a number of activities that highlight Scratch's uses in specific curriculum areas.
Participants will need to bring their own device. A laptop is highly recommended but an iPad or tablet can work as well.
My background is in Teaching. I have a BEd (Elementary) degree from the Australian Catholic University. I worked as an elementary teacher for 4 years in Australia and the UK before teaching Science in a Secondary School in London. Upon coming to Canada, I wanted to use my experience to explore education outside of the classroom and started working as a Community Developer for Kids Code Jeunesse. I have presented workshops to students, teachers and pre-service teachers around BC.
