Earth Science Resource Unit

This resource unit provides a collection of engaging and instructive activities and demonstrations to help teach students the fundamentals of geology and introduce plate tectonics and the history of the Earth through creative learning activities. Units in the binder address essential topics like rocks and minerals, the rock cycle, structure of Earth, volcanoes and earthquakes, plus unique topics like Famous Rocks and B.C. geology.

Participating teachers receive a comprehensive support kit (valued at $400) which includes:

  • a 400-page teacher’s binder with BLMs, worksheets, and answer keys
  • a wealth of support materials including maps, posters, and more
  • a Rock and Mineral Kit
  • a USB with digital materials and links to relevant geoscience webpages

Binder materials and select support materials are available in French.

    Kerry Lockwood

    Kerry Lockwood is an Earth Science and rock enthusiast who currently teaches science at Pinetree Secondary in Coquitlam. Kerry is the lead writer and creative developer of MineralsEd’s Earth Sciences Resource Unit. She has presented the in-service workshop for this outstanding unit to teachers around the province since 2011, and facilitates MineralsEd’s teacher Pro-D programs at AME's Roundup conference. Kerry was the recipient of the 2021  Pacific Northwest Outstanding Earth Science Teacher Award from the National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT).
