Entry Points for Sikh history in social studies

This workshop will allow participants to think about how high school teachers can introduce/integrate elements of Punjabi Sikh history into some of their junior social studies courses. Each attendee will have access to Document-Based Activities (DBA) about Sikh history for their SS8 and SS9 classes.

    Gurdip Mahli

    Gurdip Mahli is a high school social studies teacher at Burnett Secondary in Richmond. His Masters degree in Asian Studies (University of London, UK) focussed on Sikh identity and British colonial education policies of the late 19th and early 20th centuries in Punjab, India. Gurdip is interested in how he, and other educators, can help increase the awareness and inclusion of Sikh history and identity within the parameters of the current social studies curriculum of British Columbia.
