Games, Games, Games!

In this workshop teachers will learn a variety of math games to supplement their math program.  Math games provide students with opportunities to strategize, work through math concepts, and have fun while learning!  Through math games students deepen their mathematical understanding and reasoning of number concepts, patterns, relationships and computations.  This workshop will consist of hands-on learning and discussions about why math games and math journals should be an essential component to your math program!  Teachers will leave with a package of ready to use math games to implement with their students.

Presenter

  • Sharon Dhudwal

Simran and Sharon have been working in the Surrey School District as elementary teachers for over a decade.  They have taught both intermediate and primary and currently teach grades 2/3.  Simran and Sharon have found that using math games and math journals has increased their student's ability to think mathematically and allow students to find different strategies to solve problems while having fun (and learning).  Parents also enjoy learning math games from their child which often require nothing more than a playing deck of cards and some dice!  Simran and Sharon have found that math games blend nicely with the BC curriculum's core competencies of communication, thinking, and personal and social awareness.
